4 Reasons to Reset with The Refinery This Fall

September 4, 2016 by Teri Sprouse

Fall is definitely in the air here in Oregon.  This week brought the first rains we have seen in a long time and, for many of us,  a return to the routines of school.  The summers in Portland are always an amazing time to relax and take in all the Northwest has to offer-outdoors, concerts, hiking, biking, beautiful weather and tons of delicious food and drinks.  However, with the changing of the seasons, now is a good time to refocus on our health and fitness goals.  With this in mind, I have put together a ReSet for the Refinery to help everyone get back to the healthy habits that help us feel our best. Many people referred to a program like this as a “cleanse” but I like to think of it more as an opportunity to recommit to  healthier habits or for those of us looking to add new healthy behaviors to our lives, this plan will give you a blueprint.

People are often curious why a cleanse or ReSet is a good idea.   Here are my top four reasons:

  1. This is an opportunity to commit to healthy habits.  Most of us know what we “should” be doing to incorporate healthy habits into our lives but many of us lack the motivation or just find it hard to get started.  This ReSet gives you a clear plan to follow to start on the path to better health.
  2. Decrease Inflammation:  Inflammation has been identified as a key component of many of the modern diseases many of us experience.  It has been implicated in diabetes, heart disease, joint pain, periodontists and allergies.  This plan eliminates many of the common dietary allergens, giving your body a rest from their inflammation producing properties.
  3. Decrease Your Bodies Exposure to Toxins: This plan features only whole, real foods combined in easy to follow recipes.  By eliminating packaged food, you decrease your exposure to chemicals and other unknown substances  found in most boxed foods.
  4. Lose weight:  While I don’t think of this ReSet as a weight loss plan, many people will drop some weight because they are eliminating many of the foods (sugar, packaged foods) and drinks (alcohol) that contribute to weight gain.

This ReSet is conceived of as a 19 day group journey to better health.  We will start with the preparation phase of the ReSet on Friday, September 16th.  We will use this time to prepare for the active  ReSet- this is a good time to start weaning ourselves off of coffee and alcohol.  The active ReSet phase starts on Monday, September 19th and lasts until Sunday the 25th.  This is the period where we focus our energy on eating a real foods diet.  Our finally phase is the re-introduction phase where we slowly add back in those common allergens we had been avoiding during the active phase.  The reintroduction phase starts on Monday Septemeber 26th.  During all phases of the ReSet you will receive daily emails filled with encouragement, tips for success and additional recipes.  You will also have access to a private Facebook group to share your thoughts and experiences with others enjoying the ReSet.
