Holiday Party Season Survival Guide

December 4, 2017 by Teri Sprouse

The Holiday Party season is now in full swing and based on conversations I have been having with friends and family, everyone could use some tips on how to survive the fun of the holiday season.  Sticking to some of the following tips may help you avoid  the morning after regrets.

Don’t go to the party hungry:  Be sure to consume a healthy snack before leaving for your party.  Having a little food in your belly will slow down alcohol absorption and help you make healthier choices at the party buffet table.

Pick the smallest plate available:  Choosing the smallest plate you can find gives you a natural portion control,  Also, research has shown that switching to a smaller plate tricks your brain into thinking you are consuming more food.

Fill your plate with healthy choices:  Load your plate with choices from the raw fruit and veggies tray that is available at almost every party.  Cocktail shrimp and roasted turkey are other healthy choices.  Skip the creamy dips, fried foods and cheeses.

Alternate  between drinking water and alcohol:  For every alcoholic drink you consume, be sure to have at least one glass of water.  This practice will not only slow down your alcohol consumption but also keep you hydrated.

Support Your Liver:  The liver is the organ responsible for producing the bile needed for fat breakdown.  It also  converts the nutrients in our diets into substances that the body can use, stores these substances, and supplies cells with them when needed. It  converts toxic substances into harmless substances or makes sure they are excreted from the body.  Since this is typically a season of overindulgence that can lead to stress on the liver, be  sure to support your liver by drinking detoxifying and/or green teas. eating leafy greens, consuming probiotic foods and focusing on organic foods.

With The Refinery party coming up this weekend, this is a perfect time to put these practices into place.
