Do you get enough Magnesium?
Magnesium is a mineral that is required for normal muscle tone and function, especially relaxation, yet experts estimate that 68% of Americans are deficient in this key nutrient. Do you get cramps in your feet, or other muscles? Do you have difficulty falling asleep or with muscle cramps especially in your feet and legs? Magnesium can help with these — as well as relieving tension headaches, alleviating stress, keeping your blood flowing more smoothly and strengthening bones.
Best food sources of magnesium are
- pumpkin seeds (1/4 cup has almost 50% of your daily value),
- sesame seeds (tahini on rice crackers, and hummus are delicious)
- beans
- halibut
- spinach
- dark leafy greens
- almonds
- salmon
- brown rice
- flax seed
If you want to use a supplement to boost your levels then avoid Magnesium Oxide as it has the lowest absorption rate (it is used because it is the least expensive). Magnesium Glycinate, Magnesium Citrate are better choices.
To help with sleep, take your supplement before bed.
To your best health!
