I loves me some Vitamin D!!
Vitamin D is a hormone that plays a central role in metabolism and muscle, immune and neurologic functions. It reduces inflammation, and prevents cancer among many other subtle and complex duties.
Now that the rains are here, we will no longer get enough sun exposure for out bodies to manufacture D. Vitamin D stores in your fat cells, so you will have some to tide you over for a while, but come late winter, early spring you will likely have depleted those stores.
Most medical professionals suggest a minimum of 2000 IU’s per day, unless you have your levels tested and are shown to need more. Those of us with darker skin are particularly susceptible to low levels of D.
