Where to Spend and Save on Organic + Food Scores App

February 2, 2015 by Refinery Fitness

Good Evening and Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend and are geared up for the game?  I am not a huge football person but like to watch the Halftime Show and expensive commercials.  There seems to be a little of something for everyone!

Now today, I want to talk about the DIRTY DOZEN and the CLEAN 15 + a new cool App call Food Scores
Dirty Dozen

Have you ever heard of the Dirty Dozen? It’s the 12 kinds of produce that you absolutely MUST buy organic because they are most heavily sprayed with pesticides.

Pesticides contribute to toxicity in the body, which means that we are more likely to suffer from allergies, a weakened immune system, and digestive problems, among other things.

Many fruits and vegetables that have thin skins or have skins that you eat are toxic when bought conventional.

As a general rule of thumb, you want to make sure that anything you buy that has a thin skin is organic, as this will limit the amount of environmental toxins entering your body that wreak havoc on your health.

While it is always best to buy organic whenever possible, this doesn’t work for every budget. The Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen were created for this exact reason: to help you know the top 12 foods that you MUST buy organic and the top 15 that can be bought conventional.

DIRTY DOZEN:

  • Peaches
  • Apples
  • Sweet Bell Peppers
  • Celery
  • Nectarines
  • Strawberries
  • Cherries
  • Pears
  • Grapes (Imported)
  • Spinach

  • Papayas

  • Grapefruit
  • Cantaloupe (domestic)
  • Cauliflower
  • Sweet potatoes

We all want to eat healthier, but it’s not always easy to know how.

For more information hop on over to the Environmental Working Group’s website where they have a new cool FOOD SCORES database of more than 80,0000 items.  The EWG uses three factors to score foods: Nutrition, Ingredient Concerns, and the Degree of Processing.  You can download this app on your phone today – EWG FOOD SCORES.

Whole foods are healthiest, EWG Food SCORES app will  help point you to less processed options.  Very Cool.
